Information for Parents and Carers

Moving up to secondary school can be a scary and exciting prospect. At George Grenville Academy, we work hard with our local secondary schools to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible. We also build in extra transition sessions to support pupils who may find the transition more challenging than others.
Please see below for key dates and links to support you with the process of choosing a new school for your child.

Which School?

We are so lucky in Buckingham to have two great schools in our local area. Please click on the links below to visit their websites to find out more. Please note, The Royal Latin School is a grammar school and children need to qualify for a place by sitting a transfer test. All children at George Grenville Academy have the opportunity to sit the transfer test in September although parents can choose for their child to opt out if they wish. If you would like to discuss your options with your child’s class teacher, please contact them using their class email or the school office email.

How to Apply

Apply online by clicking the link below. If you are not in Buckinghamshire, apply via your local authority.

Application opens on 10th September 2024
You must apply by 31st October 2024

Transport Arrangements

Transport is given to the nearest secondary school if:

• You live over 3 miles away, or
• Under 3 miles but the route is an ‘unsafe walking route’

Key Dates

• 10th September 2024 Applications open online
• 10th September 2024 Practice test in school (Opt out possible)
• 12th September 2024 Transfer test in school (Opt out possible)
• 11th October 2024 Results of transfer test published
• 31st October 2024 Apply by midnight for a secondary school
• 3rd March 2025 Offer Day
• September 2025 Start secondary school
